Applications are invted to fill the post vacant of Driver (Level 2) in the Maritime Authority of Jamaica (MAJ)
 
Salary range $1,550,136 – $2,084,761 per annum.
 
Job Purpose
 
Under the general supervision of the Office Manager, this position is responsible for the daily transport, delivery and collection of documents and mails within the corporate and rural areas of Kingston on behalf of the Maritime Authority of Jamaica (MAJ). The incumbent is also required to transport staff members in the performance of their official duties, as deemed necessary.
 
Key Responsibilities
  • Logs and dispatches outgoing mail on a daily basis;
  • Ensures that all mail, documents and cheques received for dispatch are delivered and logged daily;
  • Collecst Registered Mail for the Authority at the Post Office;
  • Checks goods received against Purchase Orders, and receipts goods and materials received from suppliers;
  • Executes duties for zero rating of goods and services at the Inland Revenue Department;
  • Conducts financial transactions at Banks on behalf of the Authority;
  • Executes duties for payment of the Authority’s statutory deductions as assigned;
  • Collects overseas officials visiting the Authority at the Airport, and provides transport on a daily basis to the Office and various site locations, as assigned;
  • Transports staff members to meetings and site visits, as assigned;
  • Ensures the assigned motor vehicle is maintained and safely operated, by executing the following activities:
  • Maintaining the Vehicle Logbook
  • Conducting routine vehicle checks and maintenance
  • Ensuring that the vehicle is insured, licensed and certified road worthy
  • at all times (Fitness).
  • Reporting promptly all defects or damage to the vehicle
  • Reporting promptly all details of any accident(s) occurring.
  • Submits gas receipts and daily work sheet as required;
  • Provides assistance in having repairs carried out to the Authority’s motor vehicles;
  • Provides quality customer service and courtesy to the Authority’s internal staff members and external stakeholders as appropriate;
  • Performs all other related duties as may be assigned under the supervision of the Office Manager.
Required Knowledge, Skills and Competencies
  • Good command of the English language and excellent reading skills
  • Valid license to operate a motor vehicle
  • Good driving record
  • Knowledge of traffic laws and regulations
  • Fair knowledge of mechanical operations of motor vehicles
  • Ability to plan and organize tasks and responsibilities
  • Good oral and written communication skills
  • Excellent interpersonal and teamwork skills
  • Ability to work within a diverse environment, be courteous and offer excellent customer service
  • Ability to work under pressure and meet deadlines.
Minimum Required Qualification and Experience
  • Secondary or High School Diploma/Certificate
  • Minimum of three (3) years’ experience in a similar position
  • Possession of an Open General Drivers Licence.
