Sagicor Group Jamaica Limited is seeking a suitable candidate to join our Group Legal, Trust & Corporate Services team in the capacity of:
Manager – Legal Services
Location: Kingston
 
 
As a Manager – Legal Services, you will:
  • Provide a full range of legal services to subsidiaries, divisions, units and branches assigned from time to time following appropriate consideration of the relevant legal, regulatory and business issues.
  • Provide corporate secretarial services for companies within the Sagicor Group as required.
  • Provide support to the Head of the Group Legal Trust & Corporate Services in the management of legal and regulatory risk for Sagicor Group.
  • Conduct assessment of legal issues, identify and recommend strategies or processes to address the issues.
  • Assist in the development of new products on terms and conditions and ensure alignment with applicable laws and regulations.
  • Prepare and/ or review contracts and undertake commercial transactions.
  • Negotiate contracts on behalf of the company.
  • Provide claims and litigation management support to the Group in circumstances of pending litigation and claims.
  • Recommend steps or actions to address them.
  • Research and advise on complex legal issues in the areas of commercial insurance and income tax laws.
  • Develop, manage or maintain budgets within approved expense ratios.
  • Function as Recording Secretary for assigned subsidiary boards and committees of Sagicor Life Jamaica’s main board.
  • Attend court where necessary on behalf of the company in criminal and civil suits.
  • Perform any other related duties assigned from time to time.
What do you need?
  • Bachelor’s degree in Law from a recognized tertiary institution.
  • Certification in Legal Education.
  • Attorney-At-Law qualified to practice in Jamaica with a minimum of five (5) years working experience in the related field.
  • In-depth knowledge of commercial law, litigation, and conveyancing procedures.
  • Sound knowledge of the Money Laundering Act, Insurance Act and Companies Act, Financial Services Act, Securities Act, Income Tax Act, General
  • Consumption Act and other relevant legislations.
  • Has completed specialized courses or job training in banking and commercial law or business administration, securities law, insurance law, corporate finance, real property law and dispute resolution/ management.
  • Good research and analytical skills.
  • Good communication skills.
  • Good time management and organizing skills.
  • Proficiency in the use of computer software packages such as word processing and spreadsheet applications.
  • Strong supervisory or managerial skills.
