Career Opportunity: Librarian 

JOB SCOPE

The Librarian meets the information and knowledge resource needs of the organization and its clients having direct responsibility for the acquisition, storage, dissemination and display of a large portion of the trade and investment knowledge resources of the organization.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

The incumbent expected to perform the duties required to effectively execute the job within its specified scope and level of authority Including but not limited to the following:

1. The day-to-day oversight of JAMPRO's Knowledge Resource Centre (KRC)

  • Liaison with Management Information Systems (MIS) and service providers to ensure maintenance of KOHA system for ready access by internal & external clients
  • The identification and procurement of appropriate data/ publications
  • The dissemination of these resources within the organization and via KOHA
  • Supervision of cataloguing and classifying documents, journals, books and magazines that are received or purchased by JAMPRO
  • Maintaining the online and hard-copy (card) catalogue

2. Responsibilities related to Knowledge Management Support

  • The proper archiving of information to facilitate easy retrieval by stakeholders in both hard and soft copy through KOHA and other relevant systems
  • Coordination of the actual information flows between the KRC and the organization in keeping with the Knowledge Management Policy (liaise with MIS and other relevant departments to ensure efficacy of interface between KOHA, SharePoint and the Intranet, where these tools integrate)
  • Supervise timely delivery of information requirements of external and internal clients
  • Development of the Internet Café to be re-established and the WTO Reference Centre
  • Prepare inputs for the KRC's Annual Budget and Operations Planning exercise
  • Represent JAMPRO at local and international forums related to library and information development and practices and other research oriented fora

3. Commercial Information Development & Dissemination

  • Prepare research briefs/reports related to investment and trade trends in response to enquiries from (internal and external) clients
  • Prepare inputs for the development of promotional strategies/ packages or presentations
  • Prepare /update commercial collateral material (e.g. market pointers)

4. Perform other related functions as assigned by Manager

QUALIFICATIONS, EXPERIENCE AND KEY COMPETENCIES

  • Bachelor's Degree in Library & Information Studies, or similar field
  • Knowledge/experience in KOHA
  • Excellent knowledge of the Microsoft suite of programmes
  • Research Experience
  • At least three (3) years' experience as a librarian with some exposure to special libraries
  • Experience in supervising a team/projects
  • Report writing, research and data analysis skills
  • Detail-Oriented and strong time management skills
  • Approachable and people oriented with a positive and professional work attitude and the ability to function effectively as part of a team
  • Ability to communicate effectively (orally and in writing) with persons at varying levels
  • Awareness and promotion of technological tools that will enhance the work of the organization and its mandate
  • Ability to accurately anticipate trends in knowledge directions and use initiative and follow-through into acquisition action
  • Excellent organizational skills and ability to multitask
