Applications are invited for the post of Driver 2 (LMO/DR 2) (Vacant) in the Corporate Affairs Division, Office of the Cabinet
Salary range $27,682 – $37,229 per week.
Job Purpose
Under the direction of the Principal Director, Corporate Affairs Division, the Driver 2 undertakes the delivery and collection of Mail and documents on behalf of the Office of the Cabinet in and around the Corporate Area (Uptown, New Kingston, Downtown as well as Norman Manley International Airport and Spanish Town).
Key Responsibilities
Technical /Professional:
- Provides chauffeur services to regional and International visitors;
- Provides support to the Chancery and Protocol Unit with the transportation of VIP’s to
State and official functions;
- Transports Heads of Delegations and Heads of States of foreign countries;
- Drives Coaster Bus (30 seater) on behalf of the Ministry to transport staff to and from work;
- Transports staff to and from work assignments, as requested;
- Collects and delivers highly sensitive and confidential Cabinet documents on behalf of the Ministry, as directed;
- Delivers and collects correspondence/packages/mail and makes special deliveries or emergency runs, when required (obtain signatures for items delivered and received);
- Transports equipment to/from locations as directed;
- Maintains the Log Book assigned to the vehicle;
- Conducts routine maintenance of vehicle by checking engine oil, brake fluid etc., on a regular basis;
- Completes and submits daily assignment log to the Transport Manager;
- Records data for fuel and oil requested on daily Assignment Record;
- Reports mechanical and other defects of vehicle to Transport Manager;
- Takes vehicle to garage for repairs and to the Examination Depot for certification of fitness;
- Monitors work done by repairer or Inspector to ensure satisfactory completion;
- Reports accidents to relevant authorities and prepares report within established guidelines;
- Reports to the Transport Manager on completion of each assignment.
Required Knowledge, Skills and Competencies
- Ability to interpret policies and procedures, maps, and route directions
- Ability to prepare concise and accurate reports
- Defensive driving skills (ability to avoid accidents by anticipating hazards)
- Excellent interpersonal and customer service skills
- GPS Navigation skills (ability in using GPS for finding the best routes)
- Good oral and written communication skills (ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing)

- Good planning and organizing skills
- Good decision-making and problem solving skills
- Knowledge of the operations and features of assigned vehicle (ability to recognize vehicle maintenance needs and effect where possible)
- Knowledge of road safety and traffic laws (ability to read and interpret road signs)
Minimum Required Qualification and Experience
- Completion of secondary level education;
- Holder of a valid General Driver’s License permitted to drive motor vehicle at 7000 kg;
- GOJ Certificate of Competence to operate motor vehicle, from Island Traffic Authority
- At least seven (7) years’ experience in a similar position.
Special Condition
- Required to travel island wide and in various weather conditions;
- Required to work beyond normal work hours at times to meet deadlines.
