Description
Sagicor Group Jamaica Limited is seeking a suitable candidate to join our Group Finance team in the capacity of:Vice President-Finance
Location: Kingston
 
 
Key Duties and Responsibilities:
  • Assist with the development of the company’s strategic plans.
  • Maintain an accurate General Ledger by:
  • Designing and monitoring key general ledger reports and metrics, designing accounting processes to ensure that all financial transactions are appropriately recorded, and that the general ledger reflects the true financial condition of the company.
  • Designing and evaluating control procedures and financial reporting processes surrounding the general ledger ensuring that all audit requests are executed.
  • Analyzing and providing input in the preparation of management communication including the interpretation of financial reporting results for stakeholders.
  • Execute the financial reporting function of the company by:
  • Directing the preparation of monthly and quarterly management reports including written explanations of variances between budget and prior periods and reviewing these reports for accuracy and completeness.
  • Directing the preparation of statutory financial reports/ returns including commentary on variances as directed.
  • Identifying specialized financial reporting requirements for statutory/ regulatory and other filing requirements and implementing processes to effect same.
  • Evaluating financial reporting needs and the appropriateness of the basis of financial reporting as well as the efficiency and timeliness of financial reporting.
  • Establishing and directing the accounting treatment of complex events or transactions and analyzing complex financial statement note disclosures.
  • Reviewing/ directing the preparation of other reports as required or directed.
  • Execute the Planning and Budgeting process by:
  • Directing the preparation of appropriate working papers and analyses to support the annual budgets. 
  • Monitoring variances between actual and budgeted results and escalating exceptional variances.
  • Provide sound direction and training for the accounting team, including the monitoring of performance on an on-going basis and providing assistance in recruiting as required.
  • Develop new systems and procedures to improve the automation of the financial functions.
  • Perform other related duties assigned from time to time.
 
What do you need?
  • Must possess Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA) and or Certified Public Accountant (CPA) qualification or equivalent from a recognized tertiary institution.
  • A minimum of eight (8) years’ working experience at the senior managerial level in a Banking or Life Insurance Company, Financial Institution or Audit Firm.
  • Knowledge of preparing IFRS compliant financial statements including complex financial transaction disclosures.
  • Knowledge of any relevant regulatory requirements and applicable tax laws.
  • Thorough knowledge of accounting principles and practices.
  • High level of proficiency with spreadsheet software (preferably MS Excel).
  • Proficiency with software used to record financial transactions
  • A strong knowledge of a broad range of disciplines such as: Financial Reporting and Analysis including IFRS (including deep knowledge of IFRS 9 and IFRS 17), Planning & Budgeting, Taxation and Accounting Practice in financial services entities.
