Sagicor Group Jamaica Limited is seeking a suitable candidate to join our Application Development & Support team in the capacity of: Database Administrator
Location: Kingston
As A Database Administrator, you will:
Coordinate and execute database administration (DBA) functions for all database platforms for the production environment, the offsite high availability (Disaster Recovery) environment as well as for a significant array of replica development and test environments.
Provide specialized database administration support for mission critical systems.
Conduct assessments, proactive monitoring and participate in the implementation of all database environments and upgrades.
Perform routine system checks as per standards prescribed by the Database Administrator and or the Network Administrator to ensure proper functioning of all Business Systems. Proactively monitor the database systems to ensure secure services with minimum downtime exposure.
Periodically review/ update database auditing logs/ log configuration to ensure the security and integrity of the data.
Participate in ongoing planning, designing, installing and implementation of all database production, user acceptance testing and development environments.
Responsible for improvement and maintenance of all databases to include rollout, upgrades and migrations.
Perform backups and restoration of production, User Acceptance Testing and Development database environments.
Provide trend analysis to the management team to enable them to make informed decisions regarding resource management.
Work with the infrastructure team to ensure that the associated hardware resources are allocated to the databases, in order to ensure high resilience and performance tuning.
Be responsible for the troubleshooting and problem solving of all development environments.
Respond to technical user needs related to database issues daily.
Be responsible for ensuring proper source control and patch management maintenance for all production databases.
Be responsible for implementation and release of database changes according to agreed timescales and costs.
Assist with various project implementation and User Acceptance Testing processes.
Provide first tier support for all 24/7 systems during the week.
Evaluate the performance of team members against the unit’s objectives to ensure that they are appraised and assessed in accordance with agreed standards, procedures and timetables where applicable.
Participate and provide leadership to the positions supervised through the use of timely and effective communication, guidance and support.
Perform other job-related duties assigned from time to time.
What do you need?
Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science or equivalent qualification from an recognized tertiary institution.
Training in the following: IBM DB2, IBM Informix, Oracle and Microsoft SQL Database Administration.
Training in Linux Red Hat and AIX Administration.
At least three (3) years’ working experience in a similar capacity.
Certified in at least one of the following: IBM DB2, Oracle or Microsoft SQL Database Administration.
Proficiency in Oracle 10G to Oracle 12C database architecture.
Proficiency in MS-SQL 2008 to MS-SQL 2017 database architecture.
Proficiency in DB2 and/or Informix database architecture.
Experience in structured reviews, software testing and testing tools.
Proficiency in System Development Life Cycle methodologies.
Experience in application systems integration of average complexity.
Demonstrated ability for balancing project assignments together with ongoing problem resolution/ change requests.
Exposure to networks, databases, operating systems, hardware and other IT environmental components for mainframe, midrange and PC based systems.
