Applications are invited fill the vacant post of Credentialing and Equivalency Officer (GMG/EO 2) in the University Council of Jamaica, salary range $3,429,463 – $4,076,554 per annum and any allowance(s) attached to the post.
Job Purpose
The Credentialing and Equivalency Officer is responsible for analyzing and assessing academic qualifications of higher learning.
Key Responsibilities
- Conducts assessment of Local and Foreign Academic Credentials and using evidence pertaining to applications for Credential Assessment;
- Provides assistance and information to students, the general public and other stakeholders regarding Local and
- International Education Systems;
- Network with universities, colleges, employers professional bodies, and other related bodies locally and internationally to gain required information relating to local and foreign qualifications and institutions;
- Contributes to the formulation of and review of the Council’s policies relating to Credential Assessment;
- Stay abreast of emerging issues, locally, regionally and internationally, as it relates to credential assessment;
- Evaluates transcripts, prior learning documents and educational credentials to determine recognition of qualifications;
- Prepares reports and related documents pertaining to the Credential Assessment Activities of the Organisation;
- Maintains a Records Management System to support the assessment of credentials;
- Responds to inquiries from students, the general public and other stakeholders by telephone, in person or through email regarding application status on credential evaluation;
- Prepares correspondence to employers, Government of Jamaica representatives,
educational institutions, and applicants; - Develop programmes to increase awareness of the Council’s Credential Assessment Service;
- Maintains a database of Credential Assessment Information;
- Reviews and updates periodically the policy and procedure documents pertaining to the operation of credential assessment when appropriate;
- Conducts research on credential assessment, qualifications, and the educational systems of countries and prepares information for dissemination to the general public, educational institutions, and other stakeholders;
- Notifies students, the general public or departments of acceptance or denial of credentials via written correspondence;
- Performs various administrative functions in order to maintain files, process paperwork, prepares reports and fulfill information requests;
- Contributes to the implementation of proactive solutions to continually improve the core credential assessment process;
- Manages the requirements associated with core and supporting processes of the UCJ’s Quality Management System;
- Performs other duties assigned.

- Knowledge of current trends and best practices in the education system worldwide
- Knowledge of methods used in performing credential assessment

Minimum Required Qualification and Experience
- Master’s Degree in Education or Social Sciences or any other related discipline
- At least three (3) years working experience at a tertiary institution
